Northwood at Northern Guilford Friday November 14th

The NCHSAA football state playoffs begin this Friday November 14th and the Northwood Chargers will play their opening round game in Greensboro. Northwood finished the regular season with a 9-2 (5-2 in Big 8) record which earned them a number 10 seed in the 3AA state playoffs. They will travel to Northern Guilford who finished 10-1 during the season.

Northwood’s two losses came against two very good teams in Orange and Southern Durham. Southern Durham is the defending 3AA state champion, while Northern Guilford won the title in three consecutive years from 2010-2012.

Northern Guilford’s only loss so far this season came against Eastern Alamance which is the team that eliminated Northwood from the playoffs last season.

Needless to say, Northwood did not get the best draw in the playoffs but they will not shy away from the challenge in front of them. They have size, speed, and athletic ability at the skill positions which can keep them in any contest if the offense is clicking. Their defensive line is tenacious and is their steady force on the defensive side of the ball. If they can win the turnover battle and possibly make something happen on special teams they can definitely compete against the Nighthawks.

Good luck to Coach Hall, his staff, and the Northwood football team as they travel to Greensboro on Friday for the first round of the state playoffs!
