Lady Jets advance, will play undefeated North Pitt

SarahThe Lady Jets of Jordan-Matthews won a thriller on Monday evening against a very good East Duplin team. J-M played pesky defense led by the Pyrtle twins throughout the game which created turnovers and frustrated the East Duplin girls. After trailing for the majority of the game, freshman Carlie Mote’s layup gave J-M the lead with just over three minutes left in the game 40-38. Mote’s bucket came shortly after sophomore Sarah Morse buried a game tying three-pointer and made it 38-38, and also after senior Kelsey Moffitt drew a charge on East Duplin’s Jonisha McCoy to send her to the bench with five fouls. McCoy was East Duplin’s leading scorer with 17 points. After two key defensive stops with seconds left on the clock J-M’s Odyssey hit 1 of 2 free throws to give the Lady Jets the 44-43 lead that would hold as the final score. J-M will now travel to North Pitt on Tuesday for third round action.
