Lady Chargers come up short, boys win against Chapel Hill

In what was the battle for the top spot in the 3A Big 8 conference, the Lady Chargers from Northwood came up short against the Tigers from Chapel Hill. Northwood lost 61-45 and is now 6-2 in conference play while Chapel Hill improves to 8-0.

TottenThe Lady Chargers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in this contest but at the end of the first quarter Chapel Hill led 9-16. Northwood’s Kristian Eanes was in foul trouble early which disrupted the rhythm a little bit and some close range shot attempts for the Chargers didn’t fall which frustrated the girls. At half, they found themselves down by 16 points. Northwood was only able to close the gap to 12 points in the second half and suffered their second conference loss.

Shontai Totten led the way with 21 points, Kristian Eanes had 8, and Bryn Aydt had 7 for the Lady Chargers. For Chapel Hill Raziyah Farrington scored 16 points and Jessica Wall had 12.

Northwood’s varsity boys came roaring out of the gate on this night and really never looked back. Before Chapel Hill knew it they were down 20-8. Heading into the fourth quarter the Chargers were up 55-40 and withstood a mini-run by the Tigers who cut it to 8 points with four minutes left. In the end, Northwood got the 72-55 victory. It was a big night for the big boys from Northwood as Chaz Bailey and Jared Worley each had a double-double. Bailey led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Worley had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Jalen Smith contributed 12 points for the Chargers, Kadarus Rone had 8, and Ti Pinnix had 7.

Northwood’s varsity teams travel to Cardinal Gibbons on Tuesday.
