Chatham Charter Knights split with Uwharrie Charter

The Chatham Charter Knights traveled to Asheboro to take on the Uwharrie Charter Eagles in a varsity basketball contest on Friday night. The girls’ team for Uwharrie Charter was 3-13, while the Chatham Charter Lady Knights were 6-4 before the start of the game. The boys’ of Uwharrie Charter were 5-13 coming into Friday night’s matchup, while Chatham Charter was 1-13.

The girl’s teams from each school faced off first in a very lopsided contest. The first quarter of play between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Knights was pretty evenly matched. The second quarter was a completely different story. The Lady Knights of Chatham Charter turned things up and went on a scoring run. By halftime the Chatham Charter Lady Knights led the Uwharrie Charter lady Eagles 34 to 4. The Lady Knights continued to keep their foot on the gas as they dominated the Eagles in the second half of play. The relentless defense by Chatham Charter caused several turnovers for the Lady Eagles and led to baskets at the other end. Uwharrie tried everything they could to mount a comeback, but it was too little too late for the Eagles. Chatham Charter maintained their lead and walked away with a 57 to 18 win over the Uwharrie Charter Eagles.

CCSvsUCA_bballThe boys’ game was a similar story, just with a different outcome. The Knights of Chatham Charter were a bit rusty at the start of the game as they fell behind 12 to 0 early in the first quarter. Uwharrie Charter lit it up from all over the floor during the first half of play. At the end of the first quarter the Eagles were leading the Knights 21 to 4. The struggles for Chatham Charter continued into the second quarter of play as they were outscored by 20. The Uwharrie Charter Eagles had a 48 to 11 lead going into the half. The Chatham Charter Knights were held scoreless during the third quarter by the Uwharrie Charter Eagles’ relentless defense. The Eagles’ scoring slowed down during the second half, but they did not let off the gas as they had several fast break opportunities. Although the Chatham Charter Knights struggled the whole game, they did outscore the Eagles during the fourth and final quarter of play. The Uwharrie Charter Eagles cruised to a 62 to 23 victory over the Knights of Chatham Charter.
